During the1960s, people stopped disposing trash into the water body, but by then the sea was full of various items ranging  from electrical appliances to bottles and cans. The broken pieces of bottles and other appliances had formed colorful pebbles overtime.

The World Heritage Site has an estimated 3700 polygons geometrically perfect columns that the locals say was created by a giant.

The Hand in the Desert is an artistic work of the Chilean sculptor, Mario Irarrázabal. It is a strange artwork rising out of the sand in the middle of the Atacama desert, about 46 miles south of Antofagasta.

Irarrázabal, who is responsible for this work is known for his arts that are mostly associated with human suffering. The band in the desert is not an exception as it is designed to demonstrate the feeling of loneliness.

The lake maintains its deep pink color throughout the year. Some scientists attribute it to high salinity with the presence of some species of salt-loving algae Dunaliella salina and halobacteria a pink-colored bacteria

It was popular, during the 18th and 19th century, for its anonymous overcrowded graveyards, skulls, and bones of the people. The authorities didn’t know the site could be used as a tourist center until recently when the bones were arranged in the macabre display.

The ancient Nazca Lines is an attractive site with animal figures and geometric shapes found in Pampa de San José, Peru.

This unique site can only be viewed from the air or from a metal viewing tower beside the highway. Each of the lines is about 209m in length. To view the site, you need a scenic flight to a tour to discover the huge figures and animals.
